Making Fringe

You will need a piece of yarn just slightly longer then twice the length you want your fringe to be.
You can cut them individually or wrap them around something the width you want then cut the yarn on one side.
I like to wind mine around a hardcover book 40 or 50 times. starting and ending my yarn wraps on the page edge of the book.
Since the hardcover is slightly raised above the pages it is easy to slip the scissors under the yarn to cut.

Using a crochet hook go up through the small crossed yarns between two nails.
I find by putting the fringe around this cross it helps stabilize the rows.

Fold the fringe in half and pull it through.

Pull the ends through the loop and pull it tight.
You need to put at least one fringe in between each two nails.
You should put extra fringe at the bottom corner to fill in the curve. You may add as much extra fringe as you like to make it fuller all around the shawl.
Some yarns that fuzz or unravel such as Lion Brand Homespun will have to have a small knot tied in the very end of each fringe.
You might also want to consider adding some metalic yarn, beads,or other embellishments.
