This is a 6 inch needle woven bag with a satin lining. The draw cord was
made on a knitting spool but could be braided or crocheted.
I used a round salt box as a loom.
To put the warp on tape one end of a cotton warp string
to the top edge of the box.
Next wind it in a spiral around the box leaving each round about 1/4
inch apart, tape the end of the string to the bottom of the box when the box is covered with warp.
Using a small crochet hook and the weaving yarn make crochet chains from the bottom to the top of the box catching a warp thread in each chain. Make 3 more at equal distances around the box. These help stabilize the warp and make decorative breaks in the pattern.
For a solid color bag thread your weaving yarn in a long 6 to 8 inch needle, you can find them at craft stores.
Weave over and under the warp threads then turn and weave back to the top.
Continue weaving around the box. Use a fork or a comb to beat each row snug
as you weave.
You might want to change colors between the chained sections. As you
weave leave small loops at the top and bottom of the box on each row.
After you weave all around the bag you can pick up the loops at the top of
the weaving and crochet a ruffled
edging with slots for the drawstring.
Use another yarn to go back and forth across the bottom of the box picking
up loops. Then weave across it picking up the loops in the other direction
until you have the bottom woven in solid.
I then did a crochet yarn chain and hand sewed it around the bottom.
Slide the bag off the box and sew a lining for it and slip stitch it to the
inside.
